Turkey is a house of history and culture. It offers a wealth of first class hotels. It has beautiful scenery and unequalled sightseeing attractions; all this, plus wonderful weather and at a much lower cost than at alternative destinations. The most common way to get around Turkey for both Turks and tourists is to travel by bus. If you have less time or you are traveling very long distances, you may want to fly. Most tourists visit turkey between April and October. July and August are the busiest months. In addition, in these months the International Arts and Culture Festival is held, and in April, the International Film Festival. Turkey is the least expensive of the Mediterranean countries. Although inflation hovers between 70% and 100%, frequent devaluation of the lira keep prices fairly stable against foreign currencies. ![]() Turkey is not the easiest place to travel with young children. There are long distances to cope with, lots of hiking around rock-strewn ruins, and few child-oriented facilities. When packing, include things to keep them busy en route. In Istanbul: Visit the major sites, such as Topkapi palace, Aya Sofya, Yerbatan Sarnici, the Museum of Turkish and Islamic Arts in the Ibrahim Pasa Palace, the Blue Mosque, the Hippodrome, the Archaeology Museum, the Kariye Museum near the old city walls, and the Grand Bazaar. Also, allow most of a day for a boat trip up the Bosphorus and a visit to the Egyptian Bazar. Crystal Daugheily was in Ankara. She liked the Blue Mosque and the bazar. She said that you don\'t have to have much money there. It is not expensive. And she added that the people are friendly and nice, but not all of them can speak English. As for the food, she said that it is almost like our food, such as shwarma and chips. There are also European and American restaurants. She advised those who want to go to Turkey that shopping is really very nice and cheap. And bring a Turkish dictionary so you can understand Turkish people. Jeanette Drissi said that she went to Turkey last summer: Istanbul, Cappadocia and Pamukkale. She liked the natural beauty of Cappadocia the most. And her advice was to see the landscape of that city, enjoy exploring and try to meet Turkish people. By Fatima Jumaa F5 |
