The global climatic changes threaten the environmental health of our planet. Freak weather events like disastrous hurricanes, tornadoes, floods and forest fires are predicted to become more frequent because of climate change. Increased levels of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other polluting greenhouse gases in our atmosphere cause climate change. Scientists blame the effects on human activities such as burning coal, oil and gas in power stations to generate electricity. The greenhouse effect is a result of rain forests being destroyed and increasing the level of pollutants in the air and water. Nuclear power is being considered as the next form of energy. Evidence proves that nuclear power is unsafe for human health and it will affect generations to come. Green energy is a safer, cheaper and cleaner alternative to the problem of climatic change. Green energy is derived from renewable sources. The renewable sources are solar and wind power. These sources are clean and will not pollute the environment. They are safe, unlike nuclear energy, and will not deplete like oil and gas reserves. Using green energy is a good way of helping to fight climate change because it decreases the carbon dioxide production. We could achieve energy efficiency by using as little energy as possible and thus saving our planet for our future generations. Fatima Al Hashimi |
