My summer holiday was spent 1) .......... winter. I went home to Australia and I stayed three weeks on my parents\' farm, a distance of 800 kilometres from Sydney and 300 kilometres from the nearest set of traffic 2).......... . The farm is twenty kilometres from the nearest town. This means that it\'s a very 3).......... place to be.
Sadly, the area where my parents 4).......... is experiencing a drought. There has been no good rain for almost two years. Many farmers have sent their 5).......... away on agistment. This means that you must pay another person to allow your animals to be on his or her farm. My mother kept her \'poddy\' calves at 6).......... . These calves have lost their mother or their mother was too weak to look after them. My mother takes on the job of looking after them. This year she had fifteen to look 7).......... . Each of them is given a name and they become very friendly. Each of them has its own personality and sometimes they get into trouble. My mother loves to garden and she has been keeping some of her favourite 8).......... alive by giving them precious water. The calf in this picture, 9).......... name is Ian, managed to get into her garden and eat some of the plants. My mother was upset, but she could understand that Ian just wanted to 10).......... something green. I helped to make the fence stronger so Ian can\'t get in again.
It\'s great to live on a farm, but when there is a 11).......... it can be difficult to enjoy yourself. Still, because of the hard times people come together to help each other. No one will refuse to help or to accept an offer of help. It makes you feel proud of being from the 12).......... .
